Why are isotopes important in biochemical research?
isotopes of many elements like phosphorus, nitrogen,.. are incorporated into macromolecules like proteins, nucleic acids and the changes in them can be traced using the radio isotopes that have been incorporated
"Biochemistry" is the study of the processes that occur in an organism (essentially metabolic processes), on a molecular level. aka really freakin tiny and infinitesimal
obviously you cant see this biz with the naked eye. and as molecules are itty-bitty, it would be really ______ difficult to comprehend what reactions they're involved in, and how they are synthesised, and how they basically do their day to day stuff
enter centre stage: Isotopes. these fuzzy little buggers can be inserted into an atom and will enable biochemists to follow its path and cognize how it is used, what it will form and how will that process occur as a result of it
