People could marry at 14 and 15 years of age. Young men could carry swords and fight in the streets without police intervention. ACT ! SCENE I "Verona. A public place. [Enter SAMPSON and GREGORY, of the house of CAPULET, armed with swords and bucklers] SAMPSON Gregory, o’ my word, we’ll not carry coals." People could marry at 14 and 15 years of age. ACT II SCENE III ROMEO TO THE FRIAR; Then plainly know my heart’s dear love is set On the fair daughter of rich Capulet: As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine; And all combined, save what thou must combine By holy marriage: when and where and how We met, we woo’d and made exchange of vow, I’ll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us to-day.

A couple differences between today and the time of Romeo and Juliet, would be age. Romeo was most likely much older than Juliet. Also in the Renaissance, loyalty was VERY important to them. (Something they kept from the middle age when people lived on lords manors) The loyalty of the Capulet and Montague was a huge thing...Use the example of Juliet's monologue when she says "a rose called by any name would smell as sweet, as would romeo were he not romeo called."
