How was fascism different than communism?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, Facism is alot like nationalism, but in a more rascist way. Nationalism is thinking your country is better than everyone else's. Like if you support your country in the Olympics, and you think every other country is worse than yours, you are showing nationalism. Communism is alot different, as you probably know

Just adding to avalonmay's answer, fascism is a lot like what is being described - "Our country is BEST country!". That by itself isn't a bad thing, but it often requires building a government around it to support the state above everything else -- even individual liberties. Communism goes beyond the state -- it's not bound by any one nation, it's a movement, a way of thinking and pushing social change according to its ideals that does not recognize borders. In short, fascism focuses on the state above all. Communism wants to change the world.
