I think openstudy has gone too far with medals.
I'm always going on History/English posts, and sometimes I see people giving out direct answers. So I explain to them how the code of conduct is against that. And later I witnessed that a user (I saw him give out direct answers in the past) complained here in openstudy feedback that he had "helped" someone with a lot of questions and then the person took away all the medals he gave that user. So pretty much 90% of the people that give out direct answers do it so they can hurry up and get a medal from the user asking the question. It's the same with smartcents and the new titles. I'm not saying it's bad, I just think that too many people use this site the way it isn't supposed to be used (by being greedy for medals).
Does that paragraph make sense to you? @Abhisar If you agree, maybe you can put some of this in the openstudy search thing so people can read it. But, they'll probably just ignore it.
Giving out direct answers is against the COC. You can report such activities wnvr found.
That's what I always do when I see someone giving out direct answers.
That's good...in this way u r helping mods in policing the website :)
Yeah, but it's kind of useless.
@Whitemonsterbunny17
\(\Large\frak\color{blueviolet}{Good~Morning!}\) Hmm.. Well I agree that many use the site incorrectly, but that is what mods are for. If you see a user giving direct answers, report them. If they are a newer user and they are giving direct answers, they may not know they are doing wrong. In cases such as that, kindly bring it to their awareness. If it is a user that has been here for a while, and you have told them before not to give direct answers yet reporting is not doing anything after some time, pm some of the mods and they will take care of it.
When there's a new user and I tell them they give out direct answers, they make excuses saying "Oh sorry, I'm new here." Then I say "You don't have an excuse, because you checked the boxes agreeing to the CoC."
Then....they rage quit.
So it's kind of worse if you're new here and you give out direct answers.
Well you have to be more calm about it. For new users, I usually warn them, and let it go the first time. If I see them doing it again, I report.
I disagree that new users are worse. There are some feisty older users out there. ._.
And when I say feisty.... I mean feisty! D:
That's not my point, I'm saying new users should have just read the CoC.
Oh, well yes, I completely agree.
I don't know how they could make it so that they HAVE to read the CoC.
Just making sense here, you shouldn't give anyone a warning.
No? Why not?
Cause they don't have any excuse.
Hmpfh, I guess that's true. What I think is that we need to find a way to ensure everyone has read over the CoC before joining. In thought, they could add a little quiz thing to test people before they can join..
That's the jobs of the mods.
What is?
The think you just said up there.
*thing
That's not the job of the mods. The job of the mods is to maintain the site. Which means filtering out bad users, ensuring everyone is following the site's terms, etc. The ambassadors also have the job of ensuring everyone is following the site's terms, but they do not have any tools. They are users like you and I.
Then who's job is to put up that stuff to make sure that nobody breaks the CoC?
To make sure users read it?
Or to stop people from breaking the CoC?
To make sure users read it.
That's the company's job.
So those who own this site, it is their "job" to ensure users accept the CoC. Notice how I said accept... It is the user themself who needs to make sure they read it. After they accept it, anything they do against it is their own fault. Not the company's, not the mods, not the ambis.
It's not like they'll actually do that.
They probably don't even know people are doing that.
I suppose that if the company must ensure that users accept it, it is the company's "job" to make sure people read it, too.
Well, if a big enough deal is made about it, I'm sure they'll change it. ;p
I could make a post to try to get their attention with. I'll need some more ideas on how they could make sure people read it before joining, first.
If you think of anything, pm me.
