which is larger, the number of english 8 letter words that end in -able,or the number of 8 letter words that have a as the 5th letter ? how did you arrive at the answer ?

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Take the word likeable for example. It is 8 letters, ends with -able. Notice that "a" is the 5th letter. Think of all possible words fitting those criteria. Now think of the number of 8-letter words that have "a" as a 5th letter. Just as an example, "likeability" would be such a word. So, having just "a" as a 5th letter is much less restrictive then having to have the 5th letter as "a", because all of the words ending in -able also have "a" as their 5th letter.

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

So the set "number of 8-letter words ending in -able" is a subset of the set "number of 8-letter words whose fifth letter is a "

Thanks for the perspective,so I can say that I arrived to this conclusion through deductive reasoning
