how would i name an expression based on its degree and number of terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for 1) Highest degree is -3x^2 (degree 2) then 4x (degree 1) so it becomes -3x^2 + 4x for 2) its K^2 (2 degree), 8k (1 degree) and -5 (0 degree) which would make K^2 + 8k -5 Try number 3 by yourself, remember highest degree term comes first, then next highest 3) 9z-11z^2+5z+5 (hint highest degree is 2 from -11z^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question was2\[2x ^{3}-x ^{2}+4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 is zero degrees (its like 5x^0) but x^0 = 1 so, 5*1 = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u get wat i'm saying ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would 3 be 11z^2 9z 5z 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:/ ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would that be it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-11z^2-9z+5z+5 = -11z^2-4z+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the awnser to my question would be 2x^3 4x -x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait was i wrong or right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and how would i name the expression based on its degree and number of terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup because you can, combine common terms when you can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this wat i mean 9z-11z^2+5z+5 -9Z+5Z+5 -11z^2-9z+5z+5 = -11z^2-4z+5 you subtract the 9+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k so i get how to put the polynomial in standard form but how do i name it based on its degree and number of terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically all numbers without (x) or variables are degree 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would you name 2x^3 4x -x^2 based on its degree and number of terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^y is the basic form, y determine what degree it is, so 75x is like 75x^1 (1st degree) (linear function) w^2 has a x^y (y =2) (2nd degree) (quadratic function) -5n^4 (y=4) (4th degree) (quartic function)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im 13 that makes no sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i give u the terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k u will or u did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i dont know how im in honors this is confusing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for putting them in stand form you need to follow this rules highest degree term comes first + next highest degree + next highest degree + .... = zero degree term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks i know how to do that now but how do i name the expression based on its degree and number of terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

everything i said put it to together an u got ur answer ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so thank u so much your a life saver sorry for taking up so much of your time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's ok , i like helping people

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks bye hope i can return the help at some point ttyl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok bye
