Robin Hood shoots an arrow horizontally with an initial speed of 38 m/s from a heigh of 1.8 meters. Assuming it does not git anything along the way, how much time does it take to land, and how far away does it hit the ground from where Robin is standing?

OpenStudy (schrodingers_cat):

For your vertical component your going to have \[s = 1/2at ^{2} +vt +h\]

OpenStudy (schrodingers_cat):

You know the initial vertical component for the velocity is zero as it shot horizontally. So the equation will take the form S= -4.9t^2 + 1.8 set this equal to zero and solve for t to find when it hits the ground. The horizontal component of the arrow will simply be S = Vxt Where v is 38 use your answer for t and sub it in this will give you the distance the arrow traveled.

Hope this helps :)
