I don't know if this is off topic, sorry! Does anyone ever think that people want us to think pseudoscience is false because some of it is actually true???? Don't know if it's just me or anything!?

OpenStudy (opcode):

"Pseudoscience is a claim, belief or practice which is presented as scientific, but does not adhere to a valid scientific method, lacks supporting evidence or plausibility, cannot be reliably tested, or otherwise lacks scientific status." - Wikipedia Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudoscience Then again if that is not enough to quell your doubts, test homoeopathy or whatever claim has been labelled pseudoscience.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, its just that the teachers try to shove the idea that its bad right down your throat, and i have natural tendencies to question everythingXD. but i just think people should give some ideas a chance, you know?@Opcode

OpenStudy (opcode):

A claim isn't simply labelled pseudoscience. For what most call pseudoscience is claims tested and do not hold up, yet are still presented as scientific.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, public schools, ugh, so yeah basically thats what they say, and they like to use the "aliens helped build the pyramids 5000 years ago is not true" example, like WHAT IF THEY DID?!!?!?ugh

OpenStudy (opcode):

It highly unlikely to say it is true, and it is completely wrong to say that it is a scientific fact. If it is claimed to be scientific it could and correctly be classified as pseudoscience.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is classified as pseudoscience, but i just don't think that teachers should be classifying pseudoscience as bad, because its not!!

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Taylor, try to watch the inappropriate abbreviations. As for your question, we have philosophy section. Pseudoscience doesn't mean something isn't true. Pseudoscience are sciences that can't be tested. For example, "what is happiness." This cannot be tested because everyone has different emotions. Asking, "did Aliens help build the Earth 5,000 years ago," is more of a question, and not pseudoscience. You can't test whether or not Aliens did help build the world. If something is not testable = pseudoscience. As a final example: if I claimed that we could tell the future by observing the stars, it would be pseudoscience because it's not something we can actually test. Just because something is pseudoscience does not mean it isn't true - it just means it's not testable.

OpenStudy (opcode):

We do know what happiness is... Dopamine. :D Anyway, Compassionate is correct. If you want a claim to be scientific, find support for it in a valid scientific method. Normally scientists use experimentation, although observation is valid.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah well my public school system isn't actually the best so they basically say its untrue, ugh teachers though. but the whole alien thing is pseudoscience because it can't be tested, and it's not a question
