Help Please! One printing shop charges $5 plus $.02 per page and a second shop charges $7 plus $.15 per page. If _ pages are printed the total cost is less for the first shop.
surjithayer....Isn't the total cost always gonna be lesss for the first shop ??
let x be the number of pages,then 5+.02x<7+0.15x .02 x-0.15x<7-5 -0.13 x<2 0.13 x>-2 \[x>\frac{ -2 }{ 0.13 }\] or \[x>\frac{ -200 }{ 13 },x>-15,but~x>0,\] hence x is all natural numbers. or x can be any number of copies.
texachic 101 you are correct.
thats why this one confused me...because for them to even have equal costs, they would have to make a negative number of copies...which is impossible
so basically, the answer is any positive number...right ??
I also kept getting a negative answer the options that are given to me are: less than 1500, less than 2100, less than 400 and less than 900. I am still confused on how the number would be positive...
Is the one that charges the $5, the first shop ?
yes it can be any positive number.
@texaschic101 Yes
answer choices don't make sense to me
i think it should be 0.2 in place of .02.
that would make a difference
5 + 0.2x < 7 + 0.15x 0.2x - 0.15x < 7 - 5 0.05x < 2 x < 2/0.05 x < 40 well....maybe not. Because if it was 0.2, then the answer would be less then 40
@amistre64 .....can you help with this one please
try between .02 and .015 i am following your calculations. then x<2/0.005 x<400
Thanks for helping me =) I really appreciate it. For now I will leave it alone and ask the teacher. He probably mistyped a number.
good idea...good luck :)
