Can y=-x?

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Incorrect For example, say y = -1. Can x = -1 as well? No, y already represents that number and two variables can't have the same value.

Thanks, thats been bugging me for a while

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Can y=-x? Were you trying to ask `Can x=-x?` Because in that case, Shadow is correct with his example: \(\Large\rm -1\ne-(-1)\) But if we're talking about a relationship between `two different` variables, then yes it certainly can be true. Take for example y=-1, x=1, \(\Large\rm -1=-(1) \qquad\color{green}{\checkmark}\)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oh and also, I guess x=-x would actually be true for x=0 I forgot about that >.< But please, clarify your question :3
