In a response of three to five sentences, explain how Macbeth changes throughout the scene in this lesson. Use the lines from Group A, when he first hears the weird sisters' greeting, and Group B, the aside he makes after he learns he has been named Thane of Cawdor, to support your answer.
i dont understand this story at all
any idea? @Supernova_Sonntag
Well, first off if you don't understand the story the video on the link below is wonderful in explaining it in easy terms. http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/macbeth/ Also check out No Fear Shakespeare (it is very great for middle english translations). In group A Macbeth is responding to the witches' statement about him becoming Thane of Cawdor, and then later King of Scotland (which, of course, he was really confused about). He was confused because the Thane of Cawdor is alive and well, and for him to be king was a silly notion that was completely beyond belief. When he says "by Sinel's death I know I am Thane of Glamis" he means that when Sinel died he inherited the position of the Thane of Glamis. Then that last line in A he is basically saying it is impossible for him to be Thane of Cawdor. In group B he is basically pondering what has happened with the witches and what his intentions are AFTER he has learned that the witches were right about him becoming Thane of Cawdor, and he thinks that he might really become king next. Then he starts thinking that the "supernatural temptation" could be good or bad, and if it was good why does he want to murder Duncan? He is disgusted and frightened by the thought of murdering the king. He is saying that real threats don't even compare to the frightening prospect of murder.
okay, thank you(:
No problem, I hope that cleared up some stuff for you.
