OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the arrangement of subatomic particles in 14C

OpenStudy (abhisar):

It is an isotope of carbon atom

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Contains 6 electrons, 6 protons and 8 neutrons

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The nuclei number can only variable in the number of neutrons, as if we added more protons we would get another element, and adding or removing electrons would create a ion of the specific element. So for the isotope: 146C We have 6 protons, 6 electrons and can you then guess how many neutrons it contain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 :) Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Carbon-14, 14C, or radiocarbon, is a radioactive isotope of carbon with a nucleus containing 6 protons and 8 neutrons. Its presence in organic materials is the basis of the radiocarbon dating method pioneered by Willard Libby and coleagues (1949), to date archaeological, geological, and hydrogeological samples.
