OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

What is the difference in conductivity between O.1 M NaCl and 0.1 M HgCl2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you manage to answer your other question? If so, you should be able to answer this question the exact same way.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

? not weak or strong what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok see MgCl2 has higher conductivity than NaCl. Always remember that the conductivity of a solution is proportional to its ion concentration. so, MgCl2 has 3 moles of ions and NaCl only has 2 moles of ions. MgCl2 @toxicsugar22

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

IDT she knows what an ion is

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

An ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom a net positive or negative electrical charge.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

thanks copy and paste your own words?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whatever it may be..lol thing is whether she knows that?? if she, then well and good :)

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

these concepts accrue

OpenStudy (nikato):

i think you can tell teh conductivity if you know the bonds. so for NaCL, is it ionic or covalent? and for HgCl2?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

NaCl is ionic and HgCl2 is covalent

OpenStudy (nikato):

correct. remember ionic bonds have more conductivity than covalent bonds

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

it says to explain the differnces in conductivities

OpenStudy (nikato):

NaCl( ionic) will have a stronger conductivity than HgCl2 ( a covlaent bond)

OpenStudy (nikato):

ok. its just a really basic answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol that's Hg i read it as Mg :P Crap!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Weird, I thought you needed to quantify the difference, not explain the difference.
