5x+y=5 3x+2y=3

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

What are you solving for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x & y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply both sides of the first equation by -2 . The y terms will subtract out.

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

I think when you have this kind of problem you're supposed to substitute the variable you're not solving for with 0.

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

So if you want to solve x, it would be 5x = 5 and 3x = 3 ...so I guess x is 1, lol Now that you know x = 1, substitute x for 1 when solving for y. 5 + y = 5 3 + 2y = 3 ...so y is 0.
