What is 4 7/8 as a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends if you mean 4 plus 7/8 or 4 times 7/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so the number will become 4.xxx where xxx is an unknown number as of yet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to know what comes after the decimal we need to convert 7/8 into a decimal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.875

we can do this by either calculating 7/8 but i don't blame you if you can't do that form the top of your head. It's actually easier to find a number that you can multiply with the bottom number (8) to make 10, 100, 1000, 10000 or a number like it (a 1 followed by only zeroes). In the case of 8, i believe 125 is the smallest number that applies. (8*125=1000) so we have to multiply both 7 and 8 by 125. so we get 875 / 1000 now we just take the 875 and place the decimal point 3 spots to the left (one time for every 0 in 1000) remember to add the 4 and we'll have 4.875
