@ganeshie8 factoring: when grouping 24xy + 64x^2 + 42y + 112x, i get (8x+14) and (4x+7) after factoring with 8x and 6y.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

64x^2 + 112x + 24xy + 42y 8x(8x+14) + 6y(4x + 7)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Notice that you can still factor a 2 from first binomial

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

64x^2 + 112x + 24xy + 42y 8x(8x+14) + 6y(4x + 7) 16x(4x+7) + 6y(4x+7)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

now factor the GCF 4x+7

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

i dont understand this step: 16x(4x+7) + 6y(4x+7)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

64x^2 + 112x + 24xy + 42y 8x( `8x+14`) + 6y(4x + 7) 16x(4x+7) + 6y(4x+7)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

factor "2" from that

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

you mean 8x(4x + 7)? or 4x(4x + 7)?

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

i think i understand it now. i used 8x to factor but that was too little. i noticed from (8x + 14) i could factor out a 2 which means that i would have to multiply the 8x that i used by 2. so instead the correct factors are (16x + 6y) (4x + 7) yes?

OpenStudy (ny,ny):

and then (16x + 6y) can be factored with 2 so 2(8x +3y) (4x+7) is the answer. i think.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Perfect !!!
