Read the following complex sentence: Even though Ransie and his wife came to the settlement wanting a divorce, they left a married couple. Which of the following groups of words would be considered a subordinate clause? Even though Ransie and his wife they left a married couple wanting a divorce, they left a married couple Even though Ransie and his wife came to the settlement wanting a divorce
What do you think mate?
This is quite tricky! Although i would say D...IM leaning more to D but it also can be A...2 and 3 quite explain what happened but 1 and 4 do not...I would choose D...but im not the best at this stuff!
A subordinate clause can also be called a dependent clause, therefore it MUST rely on the independent clause in the sentence, but also can use one of the following words: (after, although, as, because, before, even if, even though, if, in order that, once, provided that, rather than, since, so that, than, that, though, unless, until, when, whenever, where, whereas, wherever, whether, while and why) The first and last options begin with "Even though..." AND are both still dependent on an independent clause, but since the first option is not the entire dependent, the last option would be correct. ~Good Luck ^-^*
Also consider whether the the phrase is considered essential or nonessential.. almost forgot, but that was for future reference anyway c:
