Evaluate. (IMAGE IN DESCRIPTION) a. 1/8 b. -1/32 c. 1/32 d. -13/63 e. none of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm getting A?

OpenStudy (bibby):

\(\large a(a^2-a^2b)\) \(\large -\frac{1}{2}((-\frac{1}{2}^2)-((-\frac{1}{2}^2)\frac{3}{4}))\) what is -1/2 squared?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/4?

OpenStudy (bibby):

that's a start. let's simplify \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{1}{4}-(\frac{1}{4}*\frac{3}{4}))\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1410744179735:dw|

OpenStudy (bibby):

the little asterisk signifies multiplication \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{1}{4}-(\frac{1}{4}*\frac{3}{4}))\) \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{1}{4}-\frac{3}{16})\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i redid it and got -9/16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see what i missed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that the answer i should be getting?

OpenStudy (bibby):

let's see \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{1}{4}-\frac{3}{16})\) \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{4}{16}-\frac{3}{16})\) \(\large -\frac{1}{2}(\frac{1}{16})\) \(\large -\frac{1}{2}*(\frac{1}{16})\) \(\large -\frac{1}{32}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did i get my 9 from? i see what you did there. i'm looking over mine and i don't see how i got a -9 numerator. that explains alot

OpenStudy (bibby):

lol I'd suggest you post a pic of your work as I can't see where you got it from either.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did everything the exact same way as you did until the -1/2(1/16) and from there i got the -9/16 somehow?

OpenStudy (bibby):

I don't see how D: you just multiply the 2 terms together hmm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know. i think i got my math work mixed together. time to start a new piece of scratch paper. lol

OpenStudy (bibby):

that's great to hear. the best way to learn math is through examples and doing work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, i have 50 practice problems for an upcoming exam so the ones i don't understand i'm posting to get help with. you're helping me understand so much. i appreciate it. i really need to pass this class.

OpenStudy (bibby):

I'm also cheaper than a tutor which is pretty awesome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yes, which is something i can't afford right now, which is why i turn to open study :p so you're literally the best.

OpenStudy (bibby):

*curtsies* thank you
