8-5x=6

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for x

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

oh okay so first you need to subtract the 8 on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did it now what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x=2 , x=2/5

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

exactly as @ankitben said

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx.):

\[8-5x=6 \] Subtract 8 from both sides to isolate the variable and you get \[-5x= -2 \] Now we must divide both sides by -5 to isolate the variable and convert it back to a positive. Remember the rule, whenever a negative number is multiplied or divided by a negative number, it is converted back to a positive number. So now once we divide both sides by -5 we get \[x = -\frac{ 2 }{ 5 }\]

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx.):

or = -0.4
