Dusty planted a rectangular garden that had a perimeter of 36 yards. The length of the garden is 6 feet longer than twice the width. What is the length of the garden in feet?
Welcome to Open Study. Can you do algebra?
try to recall the perimeter of a rectangle..
If so, let x represent the unknown width. Now express the length in terms of the width. It says the length is 6 feet longer than twice the width. Put that down in algebra speak. Length = 2x + 6
Now as shinaicantara as hinted at express the perimeter in terms of length and width.

I also ask do you know what perimeter is?
@JoseSalinas96 What is a perimeter??
@joseSalinas96 please participate, after all it is your problem
To find the perimeter add the length of the sides, there are 4 of them.
let x = the width of the rectangular garden y = the length of the rectangular garden you're given that the perimeter is 36 yards isn't it that perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width? so, 2x + 2y = 36 ---eq'n 1 since you're given that the length is 6 feet longer than twice the width then you'll have: y= 6ft(1/3(yard/ft)) + 2x y = 2 +2x -----eqn 2 now substitute eqn 2 to eqn 1 2x + 2(2+2x) = 36 2x + 4 +4x = 36 6x = 36 - 4 6x =32 x =5.33 yards or 16 ft (width) substitute it to eqn 2 y = 2 + 2(5.33) y = 12.67 yards or 38 ft (length)

@JoseSalinas96 consider radar's answer though.. mine's a bit long and may cause confusion. The problem asked it in feet @radar
