OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks! I kind of just needed a second opinion because I'm not sure.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

what is another way of writing 1/11^8 ? @katrynakay - that is not correct

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@Caitlyn_Morgan note - @katrynakay is not correct

OpenStudy (mrnood):

11^12 is a very large number in the original oyu are DIVIDING by 11^8 - so oyu might expect a SMALL answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Soo.. Um. Whats the answer then? I'm pretty sure it the first or last one.. :p

OpenStudy (mrnood):

first answer this: what is another way of writing 1/11^8 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know. I'm really bad with exponents.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Well that question is a basic element of exponents : Here is the rule: \[\frac{ 1 }{ x ^{n} }= x ^{-n}\] so what is \[\frac{ 1 }{ 11^{8}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Out of the answers would it be 11^4?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

I'm not interested in your guesses. If oyu don't want to learn about exponents then you will forever be "really bad with exponents" Try to answer my question - it will guide you to the answer FOR YOURSELF and soon you will NOT be "really bad with exponents"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

11^-8? Based on the rule you mentioned is that it?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Perfect

OpenStudy (mrnood):

So \[\frac{ 11 ^{-4} }{ 11^{8} } = 11^{-4}\times 11^{-8}\]

OpenStudy (mrnood):

and the rule is \[x ^{a} \times x ^{b} = x ^{(a+b)}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would be 11^4

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Why? what is -4 + -8 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-12 sorry I missed one of the negatives

OpenStudy (mrnood):

Well done. so you have 11^-12 What is another way of writing this? (you did it above....)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/11^12?

OpenStudy (mrnood):

That's right - so now you are on your way to NOT being really bad with exponents :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! That was very helpful! :D

OpenStudy (mrnood):

NP But please do not take all answers here at face value - there are VERY many incorrect answers posted!
