f(x)=4x+3 is translated 2 units left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so @lilah24, this is an example of what my note in the last question you had covers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So this is an operation directly on x. f(x) = 4(x+2) + 3 I am using x + 2 to translate to the left, as operations on x will follow the x axis the opposite direction as the operator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand how to translate to the left right up or down . its confusing @Cosmichaotic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so let's start with a simple function and I'll walk you through the idea ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's look at f(x) = x|dw:1410817335675:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So if we want to move it up, we do this by a translation by adding 1 to the outside of the function. f(x) = x + 1|dw:1410817430327:dw|
