how do I i put 5+(-9)=-4 on a number line

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Whenever you see a negative integer and you need to add that (like -9), always remember that you need to go towards the negative side (which is to the left). You can also look at the sum itself. Since it is a negative, you already know that you need to go on the negative side of the number line.

So all I need to do is label the number line then? It saids to model each equation on the number line and solve.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

That's what I think you should do. But make sure you always point from the starting point to the end point and show the rule.

OpenStudy (phi):

put a "dot" at +5 then show "9 hops to the left" and put a dot where you end up (it should be at -4)
