3/8 divided by 7/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When we divide fractions, we have to remember to flip the second fraction over and turn the division sign into a multiplication sign, like so: \[ \frac{3}{8} \div \frac{7}{12} = \frac{3}{8} \times \frac{12}{7} \] Do you know where to go from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha fair enough. At least now, we've changed our division problem into a multiplication problem. To multiply fractions, multiply the top with the top and the bottom with the bottom: \[ \frac{3}{8} \times \frac{12}{7} = \frac{ 3*12}{8*7}\]

so 36 over 56 ?
