Well for starters we can become moderators once we reach 99 and turn purple we can work hard and earn the privilege of becoming a moderator instead of being chosen.
Can confirm - have been 99 for ages. Am now a moderator.
Not sure. We would have loads of mods running around, and all.
mods do work hard to earn the privilege of becoming a moderator ;P of course 99s have more eligibility but there are still quite a few mods who are a major part of openstudy but do not have 99s. then also, there are those who have reached 99 but still are not active/mature/rule-bidding enough to become mods. then there are those who have reached 99 and are dedicated to OpenStudy in every aspect but do not meet the 18 years old age requirement thing ^_^" so yeah, 99 increase potential for modship, but is not a free for all
If 99 were all it took t be a mod, think about @abb0t and @nincompoop as mods... The OpenStudy admns have talked a few times about how they select mods. It is by an internal criteria. If you look at the very recent posts by Shadowfiend, one of the original admins of the site, you can see the sort of attitude admins have about how the site should be moderated and how users should deal with moderators.
I am a moderator tho...
Uh huh... Sure you are abb0t... And members of the sus genus have grown fully developed, working wings. Here, Bibby is complaining about a suspension and lack of accountability for moderation: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/541292afe4b0670f10144455 However, I pointed out the reports we were getting right before the suspension. So this was an event that was bothering other users. Oops. In there, Shadowfiend (former admin who helped make/explain the rules) chimes in about how this is just blaming others and that the CoC says that users are to be respectful when talking to the moderators. Since CoC violations are suspension violations, if you were disrespectful to any 99 auto-mod, you could be suspended. Not exactly a great idea. OpenStudy has a culture that it wishes people to participate in. If you read the CoC and TaC you can get some of this. If you read the posts made by admins you can also learn some more. However, a large deal if it is covered in the videos OpenStudy has made and talks Preetha has given. Moderators are chosen to help promote that culture and deal with violations of the mores and norms set for that culture. Therefore, they choose moderators based on how well they embody the idyllic version of an OpenStudy user and/or how well they seem to promote the culture.
tl;dr
