A motorist traveling at 10 m/s encounters a deer in the road 40 m ahead. If the maximum acceleration the vehicle’s brakes are capable of is −7 m/s 2 , what is the maximum reaction time of the motorist that will allow her or him to avoid hitting the deer? Answer in units of s If his or her reaction time is 3.38571 s, how fast will (s) he be traveling when (s)he reaches the deer? Answer in units of m/s

i found the answer to the first question is 3.286 but i dont know how to do the second question.

hellooo??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if his reaction time is 3.38571 then distance travelled before he could is = 3.38571 x 10 = 33.5871

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if his reaction time is 3.38571 then distance travelled before he could react is = 3.38571 x 10 = 33.5871

OpenStudy (anonymous):

calculate the remaining distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and use the formula \[v^{2} = u^{2} +2as\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where u is initial velocity .. that is 10 v is the final velocity which we have to calculate .. a is the acceleration = -7 and s is the remaining distance

thank yuuuu!!
