ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
which part are you stuck in ?
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
For part a :
since the total amount is 25000, the equation for total amount would be :
\[\large x+y=25000\]
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
Can you write out the equation for interest ?

So the system of equations are x+y=25000
.06x+.085y=2000
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
Excellent!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yay !
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Okay so thats part a
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
what about part b ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
`x + y = 25,000`
so if you increase `x`,
then `y` has to decrease right ?
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
because you have only 25,000
if u invest more in x, then the other investment has to reduce
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
In light of above information, which options can u eliminate ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I can eliminate option 2 and 3

So it would be the first option?
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
Correct !!!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yayy !!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Now part C
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
did u graph both the equations ?

No
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
Notice that both the equations are intersecting at (5000, 20000)
that means, you would get exactly 2000 interest when ur investment in x is 5000
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
anything more than that would decrease ur interest
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thank you my online graph was not cooperating !!

So the answer is 5000
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
you need to zoom out / set window size or something i think
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
yes 5000 is the max amount that u can invest in x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes ! Thank you ! This was alot simpler than i thought !!
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
geometry is indeed fun! yw :)

Also quick question if an equation is always true does that mean it has many solutions ?
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
yes its called identity and it will have infinitely many solutions
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Thank you my assignment worded it differently so i was a little confused
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
np :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Aww man i came across two more i dont understand
