Hey, what is transcendentalism? I cannot find a good definition that relates to the question I am trying to answer.
1. an idealistic philosophical and social movement that developed in New England around 1836 in reaction to rationalism. Influenced by romanticism, Platonism, and Kantian philosophy, it taught that divinity pervades all nature and humanity, and its members held progressive views on feminism and communal living. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau were central figures. 2. a system developed by Immanuel Kant, based on the idea that, in order to understand the nature of reality, one must first examine and analyze the reasoning process that governs the nature of experience.
yep i agree nicky
I found that google definition, but I am looking to find out what kind of movement it was, This is the question I am looking to answer: The Transcendentalism movement most directly affected the development of American politics literature popular culture painting and sculpture I was think popular culture.

Thanks.. I was also thinking literature so I am conflicted. :c @PRAETORIAN.10 .. what do you think?
It's basically a quest for the Ultimate Truth. People that live by the rules of American Transcendentalism strongly believe in being seen as individual people; not as a group of believers, but as individual people seeking the same answers. They're very spiritual, almost hippie-like in the sense that they feel the need to become one with nature in order to find the Truth. They're not very materialistic at all-- like Monks, they feel all materials have equal value, while love and other emotions are to be held on a pedestal. Like many people, they feel everything happens for a reason. There is no right or wrong decision, no alternate ending, and no actual choices. Everything that happens was going to happen eventually, no matter what.
Thank you! That was extremely insightful. So what you are saying was the overall act of American Transcendentalism was basically a large amount of the population that wanted to be free thinkers? Kind of like how it was during the Renaissance? And based on my current knowledge and what you just told me, my answer would be Popular culture correct?
Yes, popular culture seems to be the best choice.
Thank you for your time and help! Enjoy the rest of your day, happy studying. :)
