first thing to do is to subtract the 3 from both sides. You do these in the beginning just like you do "regular" equations; you do what you have to do to isolate the x so you can solve for it. When you subtract the 3 you get 3 times the square root of 3 = 12. Now divide both sides by the 3 to isolate the square root of x, and you get the square root of x = 5. Now square both sides, cuz squaring a square root gets rid of the square root sign. Squaring something and taking the square root of something are opposite operations; one undoes the other. Squaring the square root of x gives you x, and squaring the 5 gives you 25. So x = 25
