OpenStudy (goldps):

put -2x^2-8x-10 into this formula a(x-h)^2+k

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its like completing the square, halfway thru

OpenStudy (goldps):

i got the answer -2(x+2)^2-6 but thats not correct

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you know how to find a vertex point?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we know the vertex (h,k) then its a simple matter to convert it

OpenStudy (goldps):

i thought you used the formula to get the vertex, it doesnt tell you the vertex

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there is a formula for the h part given ax^2 + bx + c, the vertex is -b/2a

OpenStudy (amistre64):

finding k is just then using the known h to solve it with it

OpenStudy (goldps):

ok ill try that

OpenStudy (amistre64):

8/-4 = -2 so the (x+2)^2 part is good to me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-2 is pulled out for a feels right as well

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-2(4)-8(-2)-10 -8+18-10 = 0 not 6

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol, forgot how to multiply ... typo really but yeah -8+16-10

OpenStudy (amistre64):

6-8 is -2 for k

OpenStudy (goldps):

ok that work, ty

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yep
