20. Write the equation of a line that is parallel to the line connecting (2,5) and (-1,-4). I know that parallel means that they share slope. So I use the slope method. -4 -5= -9 -1-2= -3 so -9/-3 And I get 3, I understand that. I they're parallel. So the slope is 3. I don't know how to find the Y-intercept to finish the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay well if the slope is three and you are the point x=-1 and y=-4 if you move one point up to x=0 then you need to move up 3 bc the slope is 3 so the y intercept would then be -4+3=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sort of so it's 3x-1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y= mx +b where b= y intercept and m = slope. so yes Y=3x-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

check to see if you are right. plug 2, and -1 in and see what you get

Yep it works :)
