Ok here is another hard 8th grade problem..... The time between a flash of lightning and the sound of its thunder can be used to estimate the distance from a lighting strike. The distance from the strike is the number of seconds between seeing the flash and hearing the thunder divided by 5. Suppose you are 17 miles from the lightning strike. Write and solve an equation to find how many seconds there would be between the flash and thunder.

OpenStudy (precal):

17= x/5 maybe

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

looks okay to me

OpenStudy (precal):

really I just made that up.......

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that question ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

then it would look good if it can be adjusted slightly making it clear what units are involved

OpenStudy (precal):

no question was given in class, I made up my answer

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

The distance `in miles` from the strike is the number of seconds between seeing the flash and hearing the thunder divided by 5.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Ohk... then we have to take whatever we get :)

OpenStudy (precal):

ok thanks.....
