True or false. F(x)=6 is not a one to one function. True? Right?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Do you know what a one to one function is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 to 1 means that for all values in the range there is a unique value in the domain. so if all x's go to 6 what is it 1 to 1?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

Easy way to check a 1 - to - 1 function is with a vertical line test, if y = f(x) is a function it will PASS a vertical line test.

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

f(x) = y

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

So lets graph it

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 to 1 needs to pass the horizontal line test.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, but it doesn't pass the test right? Because all of the Y's are the same?

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

|dw:1411357778847:dw| etc, actually it has to pass both horizontal and vertical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there you go.

OpenStudy (astrophysics):

And now you can test horizontal and it would not pass.
