OpenStudy (andrewkaiser333):

What were some of the important after-effects of the collapse of Soviet communism in 1991? Identify three ways this process affected Europe.

OpenStudy (jessiegonzales):

The effect and aftershock of this collapse is still present until these days, and it will take decades to get real outcome of this global and far reaching change. Some of the effects were immediate, some of them became a apparent much later time. Immediately after the collapse of USSR, the world had changed from bipolar to unipolar, where USA became the leading state in the planet (to good and bad to the world and USA alone) and until this moment, there is no country, entity, or association that would match USA. This led to deformation of foreign policies around the world and increasing rejection of American culture, politics, and values everywhere int the world. USA still benefits from the collapse of USSR, but did not fully materialize an economic opportunities to it in the 1990's as did China economically and politically EU. The collapse also enabled to create much more powerful and stronger EU that is a present time expanded into territories of former USSR and became the world largest economy. The wealth of EU would not be possible, if Russia and former communist satellite would not supply material and raw resources to much richer western states. The EU without collapse of communist block would be less vital and more economically stagnant. Today all countries have access to enormous mineral wealth of USSR and cheap manufacturing capacities of the former COMECON, which cut cost to many goods exported from EU to the rest of the world. The biggest beneficiary of the collapse on the arena is probably China. It understood that economical model of USSR was not viable and forced to China modernize, while other hand did not allowed political openness predating the collapse. China while still managed by communist party transformed into different economical entity than it was in the 1980's. One of the misfortune of the collapse of the USSR was opening a gate to Islamic nationalism since pro-moscow Islamic countries did suppressed many present day problem ranging from terrorism to open warfare. Moscow did played role to keep a balance within Middle East and Central Asia and did prevent escalation of the tension into the rest of the world. It had own Muslim population and did not want to stir a trouble. The last problem with the fall of USSR was the end of the proxy wars exported into developing world, which left many region in agony with sudden withdraw of the support from Moscow. Many countries became unimportant for the world powers and became forgotten, while the local population suffer. The effect of the proxy wars are still creating problems in many 3rd war countries.

OpenStudy (arabpride):

~Well I'll just take the main points i find in there~ After years of Soviet military buildup at the expense of domestic development, economic growth was at a standstill Failed attempts at reform, a stagnant economy, and war in Afghanistan led to a general feeling of discontentGreater political and social freedoms, instituted by the last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, created an atmosphere of open criticism of the Moscow regime. The dramatic drop of the price of oil in 1985 and 1986, and consequent lack of foreign exchange reserves in following years to purchase grain profoundly influenced actions of the Soviet leadership. Several Soviet Socialist Republics began resisting central control, and increasing democratization led to a weakening of the central government. The Soviet Union finally collapsed in 1991 when Boris Yeltsin seized power in the aftermath of a failed coup that had attempted to topple reform-minded Gorbachev. Better? cx

OpenStudy (andrewkaiser333):

i think so let me check

OpenStudy (andrewkaiser333):

yup it fit thanks bro.

OpenStudy (arabpride):
