does the slope look positive or negative?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Use rise/run to find the slope. what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Read a line like you read a book - left to right. If a line "goes up" from left to right, then it is said to be an "increasing" line, and has positive slope. If it goes down" from left to right, then it is decreasing and has negative slope. Which is the case with this line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So Positive

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Another way to think of it: positive slope means that x and y move in the same direction, so as x increases, y increases. Negative means they move in opposite direction, so as x increases, y decreases, and vice versa.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Right - so you can eliminate 2 of the choices, right? You know you need a positive slope. Remember - slope is the coefficient on the x.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

And slope = rise/run or alternatively, change in y's / change in x's So what is the slope for this line?
