|5x+9|+6=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there should be two numbers

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

This is an eyeball problem. Immediately, there is no solution. |5x+9| is, by definition, non-negative. After subtracting 6, we have |5x+9| = 1-6 = -5 Something non-negative CANNOT be the same as -5. Done. No solution.

Okay could you help me with 3|p-5|=2p

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Please post new problems on new threads. I'll let it go, this time. What have you tried?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I might note this: If p > 5, then |p-5| = (p-5) If p < 5, then |p-5| = -(p-5) = (5-p) Then solve two different problems without absolute values.
