This is probably a stupid question..but can you include a citation in a hypothesis? My instructions says to write up a lab report using the scientific method to answer the following questions. *I'm not gonna post the questions* But I'm assuming my hypothesis would be the answer to those questions, and a website helped me explain my answer further. Now I know a hypothesis is an education guess, and I've never had problems typing up a lab report before but I'm confused all of a sudden. .-. I don't even know if my question makes sense.
well, a hypothesis is simply a presumed explanation, so if the citation is relevant, it shouldn't be a problem adding it to the hypothesis to make your hypothesis more accurate
Are you sure about this? Because it's for my environmental science college class and I don't wanna make silly mistakes.
@Auxuris I'm not calling your answer silly, I just wanna make sure that you're sure. I wanted to clear that up real quick, because I just realized how bad that sounded.
It's fine. It would be best if you gave me a concrete example of such a (citation in a) hypothesis? But based on what I know of hypothesises, adding a citation doesn't break any rules.
Do you want me to post my hypothesis?
Or would it be better to just think of something and then state whether my hypothesis was accepted or rejected in the discussion part of the lab report?
Hmm so what would your hypothesis be?
Whoa..
hold on
whoa wait
yeah.. i feel like its too long. it should be like at least a sentence. ughh
Is this your first time writing a hypothesis?
xD yeah it's all right so a hypothesis should be something for you to prove It doesn't matter if its correct or incorrect. But based on your paragraph, the first sentence would be appropriate.
ok, just the first sentence? What about the other question?
How many hypothesises do your report require?
Just one.
It has to include both questions?
I believe so, the directions are "you will write a 1-page lab report using the scientific method to answer the following questions"and the questions are what I posted. I just thought the answer to the questions would be my hypothesis and then I'll later on declare whether it was true or false.
I think the document that they gave me would help you, but then it'll be public.,
Ah no. The answers to your questions would be your entire journey in proving the hypothesis. It doesn't matter if your hypothesis is correct or wrong. What matters is whether in the end, you've proven it true, or false.
Ok.. umm. Well now I dunno where to continue. I think I'll just attach the file.
Do you want me to provide you a hypothesis? Increases and decreases in the invasive species population is due to (add in your reasons) and results in (add in your implications) in the ecosystem as a whole.
Ok, that helps a lot. Thanks! I guess I just needed a way to word it differently.
