Really confused
In a certain town the temperature, x in degrees Celsius on a certain day is described by two statements:
If 3 times the temperature is increased by 2, the temperature is still less than 14°C.
Twice the temperature minus 7 is greater than -11°C.
Part A: Create a compound inequality to represent the temperature range. (3 points)
Part B: Can the temperature in this town be 5°C? Justify your answer by solving the inequalities in Part A. (3 points)
Part C: The average temperature in another town is 3°C, but the actual temperature is within 4°C of the average. Write

and solve an inequality to find the range of temperature in this town. (4 points)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
please
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(a) hey its asking you to convert the word problem into an inequality
(1) 3x+2<14 or
(2) 2x-7>-11
thats a start
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so how do i convert it into a equality
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you can substitute inequality sings for = sign

so let me see
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and solve for your variable
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it would be -7>-11?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
not quite
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you are asked for two SEPARATE equations, solve them separately

OpenStudy (anonymous):
can you just give me answer, kinda in a hurry to get this exam out of the way
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh wait
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im gonna solve the equations u gave me
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now i see

pst hey don't mention the E word on here ;)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you should be doing exams solo :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so for the first equation it's x<4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and second one it's x>-2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep

so part b
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so can you help me on b and c please
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
part b is justified by x>-2

am i supposed to solve that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
help please
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no you already solved it
the temperature can be greater than -2 according to the second statement
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so b is a yes

i can't see all of part c
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh hold on
OpenStudy (anonymous):
The average temperature in another town is 3°C, but the actual temperature is within 4°C of the average. Write and solve an inequality to find the range of temperature in this town. (4 points)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep part b is correct because (2,infinity)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
all those question marks are the sign "degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):
less than or equal to
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so that is the answer?
