I seriously, seriously need help with absolute value equations
Solve for x: -3|2x + 6| = -12 options: A. x=1 and x=5 B: X=-1 and x= -5 C: x=-9 and x =3 D: no solution I have multiple questions but I need these to be answered step by step. I want to understand, not be given the answers. Solve for x: |2x + 6| - 4= 20 Solve for x: |x| - 8= -5 Solve for x: -3|x +7| = -12
Okay, so with the first problem you would add 3 to both sides and you can get rid of the absolute value sign. Absolute value just means that anything on the inside becomes positive. So now your equation should look like this \[2x + 6 = -9\]
And you continue adding to both sides, correct?
just not 3 anymore
would it not be +9?
Okay so next you would subtract 6 from both sides giving you \[2x = -15\] Then you divide each side by 2 to separate the variable
-15 divided by 2 would equal -7.5, though. is that correct?
Yepp :D
I'm sorry if this is totally wrong lol, math is not my forte at ALL. But would it be 4x = -7.5 or what
OH WAIT 1x
lol its okay, x = -7.5 1x would work but anything times 1 stays the same
-7.5 isn't an option for the first question 3:
hmm let me think
Not sure what i did wrong but you can always plug your answer choices into the equation
