Use the direct variation equation y = x/4 to solve for x when y = 60

OpenStudy (nfcfox):

Well they tell us that we are solving for us and they also tell us that y= 60. Looking at the equation we see that we can substitute the y. Let's do this. We will get 60=x/4. Well that did not solve for x that solved for 1/4 of x. This is telling us 1/4 x is 60 so we should multiply the other side by 4. 60*4= 240 therefore x=240.
