Read this passage from the text: Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What role does this passage play in the text? Kennedy is using irony to subtly pressure listeners into voicing their support for a global alliance. Kennedy is using metaphor to ask America's allies to form an alliance against the North and South. Kennedy is using a rhetorical question to ask for support in making life better for everyone. Kennedy is using simile to compare America's allies in the North and South with those in the East and West.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Third

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I say this because he says for all their support to make a fruitful life for all mankind meaning better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lianacarolina thank you so much! do you have time for another one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure, go for it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Read this sentence from the passage: Now the trumpet summons us again—not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are—but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation"—a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. What effect does Kennedy mean for this reference to battle to have on the readers? To ask them to join in the struggle against enemy nations To encourage them to support those serving in the military To inspire them to work together toward a common good To warn them that war with aggressive nations is about to happen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those signs tho wth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, that sometimes happens. uhm okay, give me a sec to look this over

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I'm going with the third one on this one most definitely

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lianacarolina Okay thank you! :) I have a bunch of questions like this x.x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahh really? what grade are you in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in 11th grade, but my school told me I needed the credit of English 1 so I am doing it online

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh i feel you!! i need all my maths so i'm doing those online & it sucks so bad. i have no idea what i'm doing :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha, it sucks, I am taking the Segment 1 Final Exam right now and I just need to answer a couple of questions more and I'm done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can try my best to help as much as I can. I always an A student with english but I've never done it online. It's very different lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is... haha okay, so here's another one: Read the fable and use supporting evidence from the story to identify its theme. Answer in a minimum of three complete sentences. A Shepherd Boy was tending his flock near a village, and thought it would be great fun to hoax the villagers by pretending that a Wolf was attacking the sheep. So, he shouted out, "Wolf! Wolf!" and when the people came running up he laughed at them for their pains. He did this more than once, and every time the villagers found they had been hoaxed, for there was no Wolf at all. At last a Wolf really did come, and the Boy cried, "Wolf! Wolf!" as loud as he could, but the people were so used to hearing him call that they took no notice of his cries for help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh, the theme is like the lesson of the story. In other words, what did it teach you not to do? The boy who cried wolf. lol, you know the lesson, right? It's telling you not to lie repeatedly, because no one will take you seriously after a while

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, I was thinking about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, just explain that. It's only 3 sentences & you've got it :) I believe that the online immediately counts the questions you type right. But you still wanna make sure you do it the right way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha Thank you! And the multiple choice questions actually count if it is right or wrong, but if its an open question like this, a teacher has to actually read it and give credit for it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, I see. For my math, they just immediately count whatever I typed in right lol & you're welcome. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha :D, lol I just need 1 more question and I'm done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go for it! I hope I helped lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have actually helped a lot, honestly! Haha, here it is: The race official waved the checkered flag. The race was too close to call! It was a photo finish! For the first time in racing history, it looked like there might be a three way tie. Race officials would need to review the footage to be sure. Tony began to think about all he had gone through to get to this point. In a well-developed paragraph, identify what technique the author uses to begin the story in the above excerpt. Explain why the author would choose to begin the story in this manner. What effect does it have on the reader? Be sure to use examples from the text to support your ideas.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kinda lame because it is actually asking for a paragraph well-developed _._

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're so right lol, but we can work with this okay give me a moment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure! Thank you soo much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, what techniques are they talking about? Like what different types?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, like different ways or tips he used to begin his paragraph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.ctl.ua.edu/CTLStudyAids/StudySkillsFlyers/Reading/interpretingwritingtechniques.htm like these techniques? I need it to be specific so I can help you correctly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me search it up. It's on the lessons I ''took''. Hold on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem, yeah that's what I was thinking because they give you a lesson before you do the submission :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, those are exactly the techniques they are asking for. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lianacarolina This question and I'm done haha, hopefully I am going to get the multiple choice ones correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay awesome okay so then I think the technique here would be tone.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just that one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also see purpose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. I get you. But how am I supposed to write that in a paragraph lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well I don't know if it could be tone because to me it felt like an exciting sort of story but it is definitely purpose because it's for entertainment, to amuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I know i'm not giving you the paragraph yet! lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, but it could be tone as well because he uses exclamation signs and it is asking just for the beginning of the paragraph, not the whole structure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, exactly. But they're just asking for one technique?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk hahaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I am going to put both of them, so that they think I know what I'm talking about lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, yeah. The story has an exciting feeling because it was a close race so it would be tone & he would use it because it leads you later on in the paragraph to where it says "Tony began to think about all he had gone through to get to this point" so yeah, it's basically sort of like media res

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wow lol haha. Thank you sooooooo much for your help, I reeeally appreciate it :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're very welcome I really tried, I hope I don't fail you lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha I just submitted the whole exam. Hopefully I will pass! By the way where are you from? Your name is very hispanic o.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hope so too, fingers crossed! Well, yes I am very hispanic lol. I'm from Texas

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 61 out of 80 in the multiple choice o.o! Ohhh I see! I'm from Colombia :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, did I give you wrong answers? Omg... & ohh, how is it over there? I take it you're not hispanic lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean you are*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or latin or whatever lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well. The questions I asked you before, were not the only ones I answered. I just asked you like 5 or 6... Before that. I answered like 20 or 25 haha, so it's alright its like a 75% on multiple choice so I basically passed haha in the open answer questions, they just care that you understood what you were asked and they always give full credit on those o.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hahaha, it's cool, a bittt insecure in the capital city, but the rest is fine, I'm living here on FL since last year on March haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lianacarolina I'll go off now, Thank you soooooooooooo much for your help. If you want to add me on FB or something tell me, so that we can talk :). Thank you so much again!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh you see, i told you lol oh & that's awesome florida? & i have no social media haha but what's your name on there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha yeah Florida... Oh I see, No problem about that! It's Luis Fernando Galvis anyway, there are a bunch of people with that name so it would be better to find me writing my email there instead of my name

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's your email? i can email you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@lianacarolina luis_fernandogalvis@hotmail.com :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind, its luis_galvis10@hotmail.com haha I dont use the one I sent you anymore
