in what why did the american revolution affect other countries

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Generally, The American Revolution demonstrated the possibility of overthrowing "old regimes"; it was, without doubt, an inspiration to French critics of the "Ancien Regime", & had some influence on the subsequent French Revolution. Arguably, it also had a similar effect in parts of South America, although historians contest this vigorously. The effect on Great Britain was considerable: many Americans do not appreciate just how many Britons, especially members of the political elites, supported them - it was a deeply & bitterly divisive issue. The government of George III & Lord North was very unpopular with many, and whilst Dr Johnson's contemptuous comments on "rebels" are familiar to many Americans, less well known are the staunch defenses of the American cause by such figures as Edmund Burke, Rockingham, Shelburne, & Charles Fox. In fact, many Britons, especially MPs of the "Whig" political persuasion, & also many lawyers, merchants & manufacturers, regarded the rebellion as simply a continuation of the English Revolution of the C17th. As far as they were concerned, the Americans were simply defending their rights as "Free Born Britons", & were quite right so to do. They were absolutely delighted to see the incompetence of George III/ Lord North's government exposed by their ultimately futile attempts to suppress the colonists. There was also the pragmatic belief that, in the long term, self-governing Americans would be better trading partners, and provide larger & more lucrative markets for British goods, than colonial subjects, defence of whom might be a drain on British resources. This indeed proved to be the case: normal relations were restored with remarkable alacrity, & the "Atlantic Trade" exploded during subsequent decades - to mutual benefit. The early success of the new American Republic also helped stimulate political reforms in Britain: self-evidently, more representative government was viable, and this was some help to those advocating reform in early C19th Britain.

No, I did a report on this in 8th grade. I have it saved to my computer. It just took a while to make.
