Directions = Write in point-slope form an equation of the line through each pair of points. #1. (-10,3) and (-2,-5) Can anyone show me how to do this?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

@digitalcamera do you know how to write a equation of line if two points are given ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

tell me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I do anyways..I have a problem I did the other day in class. I don't know if it's the same directions though, one second, I'll type it up from my notebook

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

u can do this by using 2point formula. (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) =(3+5)/(-10+2) =8/-8 slope=-1 y-y1=slope(x-x1) y+5=(-1)(x+2) y+5=-x-2 y+x+7=0

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

Remember :- If two points are given, then your first preference is to find SLOPE.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find an equation of a line that passes through (3,2) (5,8) label x1 y1, x2, y2 y-2=3(x-3) distribute y-2=3x-9 +2 +2 y=3x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the first problem asking for the same thing?

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

\[\large \bf slope=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\] where, x1,y1,x2 and y2 are co ordinates

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know what "write in point slope form an equation of the line through each pair of points" means

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

yaa its asking for same..@digitalcamera

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

like in this problem "- \[\large \bf slope=\frac{-5-3}{-2+10}=\frac{-8}{8}=-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you just do the first one for me so i can understand how to do the rest? this is confusing me

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

any confusions in my step ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no :)

OpenStudy (nirmalnema):

u can check my solution..
