Evaluate 3 + 2 • 4
The key to solving this problem lies within "Order of Operations Rules." These rules dictate, among other things, that we MUST multiply / divide BEFORE we add / subtract. So, which part of 3 + 2 * 4 should you evaluate first? What would the next step be? Welcome to OpenStudy!
2*4=8 3+8=11
3+2x4 =3+8 =11
@jagr2713 and @bumbaclot123 : Thanks for your input. But please note that a major goal of OpenStudy is to help others learn how to do their own problems; therefore, we guide others towards finding their own solutions, and do NOT do the problems for them or provide outright answers.

But @mathmale we explained the steps to getting the answer...
Did you explain why we multiply and divide before adding or subtracting?
We use PEMDAS
Right. Mentioning PEMDAS to the person asking this question would have been the perfect place to start. You can't assume that questioners necessarily know and understand and apply PEMDAS.
