@hartnn

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

The angles are congruent so the sides wil be in a ratio

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Since you know the two triangles are similars angle a is 41 angle b is 56 and angle c is 83

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

You can do one last check to make sure that is correct. you know that there is 180 degrees in a triangle. So 41+56+83=180 180=180

Thank you so much, I got all those numbers when I did it but wasn't sure. thanks again, you're a lifesaver. could you help me another? it was really confusing and im sure I made no sense

Sheila has 3 strips of unfinished molding that she wants to use to frame the two pictures. Each strip is 36 inches long. Assuming there is no wastage or overlap of molding, what is the minimum length of molding, in inches, Sheila still requires to frame both the pictures? Show your work and explain your reasoning in complete sentences.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Ok so it is in a ratio of 37.5/25 =x/32

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

x=48

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

To frame a picture we need the perimeter.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So for the bigger one the perimeter=2(37.5+48) and for the smaller one p=2(25+32)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

bigger one p=171inches smaller one p=114 inches

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

now add it up

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

171+114=285

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So the minimum amount is 285 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg, you're great. I understand everything. EXCEPT for the x=48. I know that you cross multiplied, but what was 48 for?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

48 was the width of the missing side for the larger rectangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhhhh, okay okay. I got it, thank you so much. by far thebest explainer on here. (:

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Thanks @izthewiz7

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):
