identify the slope and y-intercept of the graph of the equation y = 3x + 1

OpenStudy (imstuck):

That equation is in the form y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. What number is in front of the x?

This is the problem. I just having having a lot of trouble with understanding it

I JUST TYPED OUT A WHOLE FUKING PARAGRAPH JUST SO I CANT HIT POST

OpenStudy (nfcfox):

The 3 is the slope as it modifies the x value. Slope is rise over run and 3 is also like saying 3/1 meaning the slope goes up 3 over 1.

OpenStudy (nfcfox):

The y intercept is a constant and is not affected by the x. It's simply asking where the value is intercepting the y axis which would just be a value of 0 for x. Meaning if we plugged in 0 we would get 3(0)+1 which is just 1 our. Our y intercept is 1.

OpenStudy (imstuck):

I don't have to see the graph of it. All you need is the equation itself to find the answers. And the number in front of the x is a -3 not a 3. You're right about the slope. What do you not understand about that?

My school didn't give a lot of information about it, but you guys helped me understand it a little better... Thank you (:
