x^2+14x+7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to find the x intercepts so do i factor or use the quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you need to find x-intercepts it's x^2+14x+7=0 and you solve using the quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't really factor this off the top of your head, the numbers are irrational.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i did that and got -7 +/- square root of 84 and apparently that was wrong so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x-intercepts for that equation would be: \[-7+\sqrt{42}\] \[-7-\sqrt{42}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get the 42?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ -14\pm \sqrt{168} }{ 2 }\] \[(\sqrt{168}=2\sqrt{42})\] \[\frac{ 2(-7\pm \sqrt{42}) }{ 2 }\] \[-7\pm \sqrt{42}\]
