Which of the following expressions is the conjugate of a complex number with 2 as the real part and 3i as the imaginary part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kohai

OpenStudy (kohai):

Okay, so, do you know what a conjugate is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really...I understand how to do 3i but I don't understand the rest

OpenStudy (kohai):

Okay, well, it almost means "opposite." If you have x+2, the conjugate is x-2. If you have 5 – 2i, the conjugate it 5 + 2i.

OpenStudy (kohai):

That obnoxious set of symbols is a minus sign :)

OpenStudy (kohai):

In these kinds of questions, the whole number will be the "real" part, and the number with the i in it will be the "imaginary" part of it

OpenStudy (kohai):

So if you have 2+3i, what is the conjugate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so it is 2-3i?

OpenStudy (kohai):

Yep! That's how you do conjugate :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks I get it now!! :)

OpenStudy (kohai):

Good job
