Why was taxation without representation unfair to the colonists? What were some main reasons why it was unjust. How did the stamp act play into this too... thanks !
Because they were being taxed while having no say in the government or affairs
By the late 1700s, British colonists in North America had grown accustomed to governing themselves. They taxed themselves and took care of many things themselves. There had not been laws coming from Parliament aimed at the colonies like this before. In fact, the taxation of colonists was fair if you consider all the money Britain paid to protect them. And the colonies probably would have submitted to the taxes if it came through their local representatives. The problem was that Britain ignored the locally chosen representative governments. The colonial governments and the people got angry about not having a say in the taxation.
