2. Simplify the following problem using the distributive property: 2x + 3y + 2(x – y) – 3x. Show each step in your calculation. Justify each of your steps using number properties.

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

2x+3y+2x-2y-3x 4x+y-3x x+y

OpenStudy (igreen):

2x + 3y + 2(x – y) – 3x When distributing, you multiply the number outside of the parenthesis to all the values inside the parenthesis. Here, 2 is outside of the parenthesis. x and -y are INSIDE the parenthesis. Multiply 2 * x and 2 * -y. 2(x - y) = 2x - 2y

is that the full show your work?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Almost the last part of your directions say to justify using number properties so you need to give a proof

OpenStudy (igreen):

2x + 3y + 2(x – y) – 3x 2x + 3y + 2x - 2y - 3x Simplify all 'x' terms: x + 3y - 2y Simplify All 'y' terms: x + y

thank you both :D

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

Welcome! :) Dont forget to add what you did( Addition property, Subtraction property....)!!!
